The fun part is that now I'm going to share with you some of the things I need to let go of!
1. A Wedding Poem by Carrie Bradshaw- this has been one of my most closely guarded secrets for my wedding. It occurred to me years ago (when I was at the height of my Sex and the City days) that it would be incredibly cool to include the poem that Carrie wrote for her friend's wedding as a reading at my own wedding. I've always had it in my mind that someone would do a reading of it during our ceremony. I have kept it up my sleeve, held my breath when my other bride friends have talked about their wedding ceremonies hoping they wouldn't come up with the same great idea that I had!
However, now that I'm no longer 20 and have started thinking seriously and thoughtfully about our ceremony; what I want it to mean and what I want us to reflect upon on that day. Carrie's words just don't fit in. It's a beautiful poem but doesn't really hold the weight of what I want read during our ceremony. I want our readings to be advice to us or thoughts about love and unfortunately, Carrie just doesn't hold up to that. So, I'm letting it go. Here's the poem for you to read while my 20 year old self cries in the corner...
"His hello was the end of her endings,
Her laugh was their first step down the aisle.
His hand would be hers to hold forever,
His forever was as simple as her smile.
He said she was what was missing.
She said she instantly knew.
She was a question to be answered.
And his answer was 'I do.'"
2. Luggage Tag Escort Cards/Guest Favors- This is a recently discarded idea of mine. I am a travel fanatic and so this idea would have really reflected that for me. I love its dual purpose (you know how I love multi functional things!!) as both an escort card and a guest favor. I was going to set them up in pieces of luggage on a bed of baby's breath. I had to let this idea go however, based on cost. It is significantly less expensive to use a seating chart board rather than individual escort cards. And since we will be having a photo booth, that covers the favor aspect of the evening. Plus, I'm not sure that people really use favors they get at weddings? Anyways, here's what could have been...
Alright, well that was cathartic! That's enough of my ideas to let go of for now!
